After the removal of Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store, the question is: When will the game return? A developer update now reveals that it will probably take a while.
With a video statement from CD Projekt RED co-founder Marcin Iwinski and an accompanying blog entry, the developers of Cyberpunk 2077 now gave a comprehensive insight into the questionable launch of the great RPG hope. In addition to a new roadmap regarding updates and DLCs as well as a breakdown of the problems during development, the PS4 version was also addressed. The latter is still not listed in the PS Store.
The PS4 version of Cyberpunk 2077 remains in bug quarantine for a while longer
A few days after the release of Cyberpunk 2077, complaints from PS4 and Xbox One players increased, with the question of possible refunds coming up again and again. In response, Sony (in consultation with CD Projekt) had decided to completely remove the game from the PlayStation Store and refund buyers – though the latter is still delayed.
However, the removal from the PlayStation Store was not a permanent solution, but was only supposed to be a temporary arrangement until the PS4 version can meet the required quality standard. CD Projekt seems to still be busy with that at the moment, because as we learn from an update on the situation, there is no timeframe for a re-release yet.
In a question-and-answer session, it said:
“Question: when will the game return to the PlayStation Store?
Answer: we’re working on solutions and updates, and we’re working with Sony to bring Cyberpunk 2077 back to the PlayStation Store as soon as possible.”
What does this tell us? Even though CD Projekt emphasizes making the comeback “as soon as possible,” it is clear here that the PS4 version is not a priority over the Xbox One version, despite its lack of availability. The new roadmap shows that two larger patches are still waiting with Update 1.1 and Update 1.2.
The collaboration with Sony also suggests that Sony may have set a clear target here for what state Cyberpunk 2077 has to be in to be listed in the PS Store again. Presumably, this state will only be reached in the wake of the two big updates. The most likely scenario is a comeback in late spring, after the patches and before the free DLC content arrives.
