If you own an Amazon Echo or a speaker with Alexa built in, you’re probably familiar with the problem that the digital assistant is hard to understand when there’s more going on in the same room – for example, kids are running around, the dishwasher is running, the TV is set too loud, etc.
Amazon has come up with a feature called “Adaptive Volume” for this problem (via The Verge), which can currently already be activated by US customers by saying “Alexa, turn on adaptive volume”. With Adaptive Volume, the speaker detects if it is a bit louder at the moment and turns Alexa’s volume up to remain intelligible. Unfortunately, the whole thing does not work in the opposite direction, i.e. Alexa becomes quieter if it is quiet in the room. However, the whisper mode could help in this case.
It is not yet known when exactly the new mode will be available in Germany. The whisper mode only appeared here a whole year after the US launch.
