Rachel Zegler performs “Tonight” in a new clip for “West Side Story.”
The new picture West Side Story is being teased by 20th Century Studios.
Rachel Zegler and Ansel Elgort feature as star-crossed lovers Maria and Tony in the musical drama, which the studio released a trailer for on Wednesday.
West Side Story is based on the Broadway musical of the same name by Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, and Arthur Laurents, which was previously made into a 1961 film starring Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer.
Maria (Zegler) and Tony (Elgort) fall in love in 1950s New York City despite racial tensions and ties to opposing street gangs, the Sharks and the Jets, according to the trailer. As Maria, Zegler performs the song “Tonight.”
Tony Kushner wrote West Side Story, and Steven Spielberg directed it. Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez, Mike Faist, Josh Andrs Rivera, Corey Stoll, Brian d’Arcy James, and Rita Moreno star in the film.
In July, 20th Century Fox released a special look trailer for the film. In April, the studio published the first teaser trailer.
The film West Side Story will be released in theaters on December 10th.
