The United States Space Force has unveiled new dress uniforms, which have been compared to those seen in science fiction films.

The prototypes of the US Space Force’s new uniforms have been made public, prompting similarities to those seen in Star Trek and other science fiction franchises.

Gen. John W. Raymond presented the Guardian Service Dress prototype on Tuesday at the Air Force Association’s Space Force Air, Space and Cyber Conference.

The uniforms were defined as “contemporary, distinctive, professional uniform” by the military’s newest service branch in a tweet.

According to, the six buttons on the uniform coats are meant to reflect the Space Force as the military’s sixth branch.

Others on Twitter commented on how the uniform’s collar and a diagonal flap that buttons up on the right side resembled Starfleet, the fictional organization at the center of the Star Trek franchise.

Others remarked on the uniform’s resemblance to those worn by imperial officers in Star Wars and the Battlestar Galactica television series.

On Monday, Chief Master Sergeant of the Space Force Roger A. Towberman shared the branch’s insignia on Facebook.

According to Stars and Stripes, all uniform levels have a “foundational Delta.”

Although the triangle design is comparable to a Star Trek logo, it has been in use by the military since 1961, years before the space opera premiered.

Horizontal stripes signify “terra firma,” the foundation on which the service is based, on the three junior ranks of the branch. Curving chevrons depict orbit in the three most senior grades.

At the meeting, Space Force deputy chief of strategy Lt. Col. Alison Gonzalez sported the new outfit.

She explained that the outfit was created with women in mind; generally, the military creates uniforms for males and then adapts them for women, which can result in poor fit.

Space Force is receiving comments on the uniforms, according to Raymond, and will wear-test them before they are widely distributed.

During the @AirForceAssoc’s #ASC21, @SpaceForceCSO Gen. John W. “Jay” Raymond introduced the Guardian Service Dress prototype, a modern, unique, professional uniform.

I really like how the buttons are crossed on one side. It’s quite Battle Star Galactica / Babylon 5 / Babylon 5 / Babylon 5 / Babylon 5 / Babylon 5 September 21, 2021 — Richard Daborn (@rdaborn)
