Authorities in Maryland capture a python near a playground.

A 4-foot ball python seen near a children’s play area in Greenbelt, Maryland, was apprehended by authorities.

Employee Brian Townsend of the Public Works Department spotted the snake on a sidewalk between Buddy Attick Park and the public works headquarters and phoned for assistance, according to WUSA-TV. Using garbage picking tongs from the public works office, Townsend assisted police and animal control authorities in capturing the lizard.

An exotic pet rescue organization was entrusted with the snake.

The city of Greenbelt shared images of the incident on Twitter, comparing it to a similar incident in Upper Marlboro in which six zebras escaped and ran amok at a nearby farm.

“We see your loose zebras and raise you a python!” wrote the Tweet to @TownUMarlboro. “However, thank you to Animal Control, Public Works, and the Greenbelt Police Department (all of whom are shown) for keeping Greenbelt safe!”

We see your loose zebras and raise you a python, @TownUMarlboro! But, more importantly, thank you to Animal Control, Public Works, and the Greenbelt Police Department (all of whom are depicted) for keeping Greenbelt safe!
