Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks has purchased a share in the Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball.

The Milwaukee Brewers announced Friday that NBA sensation Giannis Antetokounmpo has purchased a minority investment in the team.

Brewers main owner Mark Attanasio said in a release, “We are thrilled to have Giannis join our family of Milwaukee Brewers investors.” “Giannis is a fantastic athlete, a world champion, and a true local hero who has gained international acclaim.”

Antetokounmpo is following in the footsteps of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, another high-profile athlete from a small market who has invested in local teams. Last year, Mahomes became a member of the Kansas City Royals ownership group, and earlier this year, he purchased a share in MLS team Sporting Kansas City.

Since Attanasio purchased the Brewers in 2005, Antetokounmpo, who is 26 years old, is the first individual investor to join the ownership group.

In a statement, Antetokounmpo stated, “The city of Milwaukee means so much to me.” “I am pleased to be a part of the Brewers ownership group, which will allow me to continue my passion and dedication to this wonderful town. I’m proud of my hometown, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do together.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo, welcome to the team!

Antetokounmpo’s purchase of a Brewers stock comes only one month after guiding the Bucks to their first NBA title in 50 years.

When Antetokounmpo signed a five-year, $228 million supermax agreement with the Bucks in December, he reaffirmed his devotion to the franchise and the people of Milwaukee.

The first-place Brewers led the National League Central by 8 1/2 games entering Friday. Four of the club’s past five games have ended in victories.
