Keegan-Michael Key has joined the cast of the upcoming ‘Wonka’ prequel.
Wonka, a prequel picture from Warner Bros. about a young Willy Wonka starring Timothé Chalamet, has added Keegan-Michael Key to its roster.
The specifics of Key’s position in the film are being kept under wraps. Wonka will be a musical with musical numbers.
Before opening his signature factory, the fictitious candy creator from Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be explored in the prequel.
Paul King, the director of Paddington, is in charge of the project, which is being produced by David Heyman (Harry Potter).
The screenplay was co-written by King and Simon Farnaby. Simon Rich, Simon Stephenson, Jeff Nathanson, and Steven Levenson are among the previous authors.
Wonka will be released in theaters on March 17, 2023.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, starring Gene Wilder, was released in 1971. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, directed by Tim Burton in 2005, had Johnny Depp as the character.
Key recently starred in the musical Schmigadoon on Apple TV+.
