Tagovailoa of the Dolphins and Dalton of the Bears have both been declared out of Week 3 due to injury.

After starters Tua Tagovalioa and Andy Dalton were ruled out due to injuries, their coaches announced Wednesday that Jacoby Brissett and Justin Fields will start for the Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears, respectively, on Sunday.

Last weekend, Tagovailoa and Dalton were both injured.

In the first quarter of the Dolphins’ 35-0 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Tagovailoa hurt his ribs and did not return.

Further examinations this week indicated Tagovailoa “had cracked ribs” and is in “a lot of discomfort,” according to Dolphins coach Brian Flores.

Flores told reporters, “This is a tough child.” “He wants to play,” says the narrator. He’s attempting to be amusing.

“All we’re going to do is save him from himself.”

Tagovailoa’s return is on a week-to-week basis, according to Flores. In Sunday’s loss, Tagovailoa completed only one of four attempts for 13 yards and was sacked twice.

In his relief appearance, Brissett completed 24 of 40 passes for 169 yards and an interception while being sacked four times.

Brissett was signed as a free agent by the Dolphins this offseason.

Flores stated, “We’re going to move on with Jacoby.” “The team is aware of this. It’s not ideal, but we’ll make the best of it with the resources we have.”

Dalton signed with the Bears as a free agent in the offseason. In a win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday in Chicago, he completed 9 of 11 passes for 56 yards and a touchdown. Dalton was forced to leave the game at halftime due to a knee injury.

In relief of Dalton, Fields completed 6 of 13 throws for 60 yards and an interception. On ten carries, he gained 31 yards.

Nagy told reporters, “It’s a tremendous chance for Justin and for us as a staff to be able to take this thing and see where he goes.”

Dalton’s return is also week-to-week, according to Nagy. He stated that Dalton will remain the Bears’ starting quarterback “when he is healthy.”

Fields was chosen with the No. 11 overall choice in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Bears.

In Chicago, the Bears (1-1) will face the Cleveland Browns (1-1) at 1 p.m. EDT on Sunday.

The Miami Dolphins (1-1) take on the Las Vegas Raiders (2-0) in Paradise, Nevada, at 4:05 p.m. EDT on Sunday.

In Week 2, a number of other quarterbacks were injured. Carson Wentz of the Indianapolis Colts sprained both ankles but is expected to play against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday in Nashville.
