Anna Sawai joins the cast of FX’s Shogun, and there’s more.
Anna Sawai has been cast as Lady Mariko in FX’s Shogun adaption. Additional cast members were also announced by the network.
Sawai recently appeared in F9 as Elle, a young orphan cared for by Han (Sung Kang).
In this adaptation of James Clavell’s novel, Hiroyuki Sanada plays Yoshii Toranaga and Cosmo Jarvis plays John Blackthorne. The book was originally made into a 1980 miniseries starring Richard Chamberlain and Toshiro Mifune, as well as a 72-performance Broadway musical in 1990.
Shogun begins when Blackthorne is shipwrecked in Japan during feudal Japan. Lord Toranaga is his mentor. Under Toranaga, Lady Mariko seeks vengeance for her samurai father.
Tadanobu Asano will play Kashigi Yabushige, Fumi Nikaido will play Ochiba No Kata, Tokuma Nishioka will play Toda Hiromatsu, Takehiro Hira will play Ishido Kazunari, Ako will play Daiyoin ‘Lady Iyo, Shinnosuke Abe will play Toda Hiroshige ‘Buntaro, Yasunari Takes
There will be ten episodes in the Shogun limited series. The first two episodes, directed by Jonathan van Tulleken, are now under production in Vancouver. The first two episodes were written by Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo.
