‘I’m honored,’ Dolly Parton says of Lil Nas X’s cover of ‘Jolene.’
Lil Nas X’s version of Dolly Parton’s song “Jolene” has received nothing but acclaim from Dolly Parton.
After Lil Nas X, 22, recreated her iconic 1973 track, the 75-year-old country music star retaliated on Wednesday.
Parton uploaded a photo of herself and Lil Nas X backstage at an event on Instagram.
“I was ecstatic when I found that Lil Nas X had covered my song ‘Jolene.’ I had to track it down and listen to it right away… Parton captioned the photo, “and it’s really, really good.”
“Of course, I adore him regardless. I was taken aback, and I feel honored and flattered. “I hope he does well for both of us,” she expressed her wish. “Many thanks, @lilnasx.”

At the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge last week, Lil Nas X played an acoustic version of “Jolene.”
Montero, Lil Nas X’s debut studio album, was released earlier this month. The singles “Montero (Call Me by Your Name),” “Sun Goes Down,” “Industry Baby,” and “That’s What I Want” are included on the album.
