The status of San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle for Week 4 is currently unknown. Following his absence from practice on Wednesday and Thursday, there is serious concern that he will miss Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Kittle has been dealing with a calf injury this week after catching seven passes for 92 yards last Sunday.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked about Kittle’s availability for Sunday on KNBR Radio on Friday. The most recent news on the All-Pro tight end was not encouraging.
Shanahan stated that he hopes Kittle will play this weekend, but that he cannot guarantee that he will. Shanahan did say that Kittle could play even if he didn’t practice this week.
49ers general manager John Lynch also spoke about Kittle’s injury on Friday. He understands that when Kittle is on the field, San Francisco’s offense is at its best. “You guys see it, I think we all see it with George; he pours so much into each and every play, and he plays a lot,” Lynch said, according to 49ersWebZone. $00 “I think it’s a combination of those things that causes him to sell out at times.” He has a calf that is a little tight, but he’s working on it. However, George usually rings the doorbell and shows up, and you can’t count on that. We’re hoping to get him, and we’re in desperate need of him. As we saw the other night and have seen so many times, he’s a fantastic player. ”
The 49ers will announce Kittle’s game designation later today. He’ll almost certainly be classified as doubtful or questionable.
