No. 9 Notre Dame will host the seventh-ranked Cincinnati Bearcats later this afternoon in an attempt to prove it is a playoff-caliber team. Thankfully for the Fighting Irish, it appears that Jack Coan will start. Last Saturday, Coan was injured and had to leave the Notre Dame-Wisconsin game. As a result, backup Drew Pyne was able to enter the game. He took advantage of the situation and assisted Notre Dame in pulling away from Wisconsin. The Fighting Irish will face No. 7 Cincinnati this afternoon in a much tougher test. Is Coan going to be available? It appears to be the case. Coan was a full participant in pre-game warmups, according to Notre Dame beat writer Tyler Horka.
Regardless of how talented his backups are, Jack Coan gives Notre Dame the best chance to beat Cincinnati this afternoon.
The Wisconsin transfer has 986 yards passing and nine touchdowns with only two interceptions in four games this season. The pure pocket passer makes few errors and has a good command of the Notre Dame offense. This afternoon, he’ll face his toughest test of the season.
