SNL pays tribute to late cast member Norm Macdonald.

Norm Macdonald, a late cast member of Saturday Night Live, was honored during the Season 47 premiere.

Last month, Macdonald, who participated on the show from 1993 until 1999, died of cancer. He was 61 years old at the time.

Colin Jost began SNL’s “Weekend Update” segment, which Macdonald had anchored years before, by saying, “It’s a bittersweet night for us tonight.”

“Norm is the reason I ever wanted to do ‘Weekend Update,’ so we decided to give him the last five jokes of the update tonight.”

Several clips from Macdonald’s time on the phony news desk were then shown. “That’s the way it is, folks,” Macdonald said in the end. “Good night, and best wishes.”

Pete Davidson, a current cast member, didn’t mention Macdonald, but he did wear a shirt with his fellow comedian’s face on it.
