The Washington Football Team is in a dogfight with the Atlanta Falcons right now. However, a questionable penalty against pass rusher Chase Young isn’t helping them at all. Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan rolled out right for a deep pass on a 4th-and-2 in the third quarter. Young, however, swatted Ryan’s arm, brushing against his helmet as he attempted to take him down. Ryan went down to his knees for a sack, but the flag flew in. To the chagrin of almost everyone, the call on the field was ruled “roughing the passer.” Atlanta easily moved down the field for a touchdown after resuming the drive.
A cursory examination of the film reveals that it was at best a shaky call. On Twitter, however, fans and analysts are outraged at how soft the call was.
This is a terrible roughing the passer call on Chase Young. Young should have just made a proper tackle attempt, in fairness, but it was never roughing the passer pic.twitter.com/wOdpgJv22c

That call against Chase Young is in a very small class — as worst call of the year.

The NFL’s attempt to protect the QB is just a complete disaster.
That is not a personal foul on Chase Young. He ran by him and threw a forearm to his shoulder pad. #WashingtonFootball

[wpcc-script async src=” https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js ” Between 2018 and 2019, there were a slew of questionable calls from referees who were overly protective on a near-daily basis.
Chase Young, on the other hand, is a formidable pass rusher. When he hits a quarterback, it usually appears to be a lot worse than it is.
But it’s never fun to see a game’s momentum shift due to a call like this. Regrettably, it may have a significant impact on the game’s outcome. The game is broadcast on FOX.
