A trade proposal for a disgruntled former No. 2 pick has piqued the interest of a Celtics insider.

Marvin Bagley isn’t happy in Sacramento, to say the least. The former No. 2 overall choice has been relegated to the Kings’ bench, playing only 10 minutes so far in the 2021-22 season. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Bagley’s agent, Jeff Schwartz, has publicly chastised the organization for their treatment of his client, who has been actively shopping the Duke product for more than a year without result.

A fresh start would be nice for the former All-Rookie First Team member, who has proven ability of putting the ball in the basket on a consistent basis despite his inconsistent use as a career 14.4 point per game scorer. If Sacramento ultimately agrees to a trade, the 22-year-old forward is likely to have a slew of suitors.

Is it possible that one of those suitors is the Boston Celtics? Bagley’s upside has Mass Live’s Brian Robb excited about the prospect of adding some scoring to Boston’s frontcourt, as he was floated as a “buy-low” candidate for the Cs back in June.

“From an upside perspective, that’s an exciting suggestion. Bagley is only 22 years old, but he has offensive potential,” Robb commented in response to a fan who asked if he’d trade Josh Richardson for a Bagley-type player.

Is Richardson on his way out?

The balance of Gordon Hayward’s traded player exception was used to acquire Richardson from the Dallas Mavericks on July 31st (TPE). He signed a contract extension a month later, which may keep him in Boston until the 2022-23 season. However, with the emergence of youthful players on the wing, it’s not unreasonable to speculate that Richardson may soon find himself on the outside looking in.

“Your head is in the right place,” Robb said, “in terms of providing extra depth on the wing for Boston if [Romeo] Langford and [Aaron] Nesmith continue to grow.” “That might mean there aren’t enough minutes for those two and Richardson off the bench.” Given that all of those players are under contract with the Celtics until at least next season, one of them might prove to be a significant trade piece for Brad Stevens depending on how the season plays out.”
