This Is Why This ‘The O.C.’ Star Passed Up ‘The Hills.’

Mischa Barton was not the first choice of the producers for the reboot of “The Hills: New Beginnings.”

While the former co-star of “The O.C.” joined the cast of the MTV spinoff in 2018, it was her former co-star Rachel Bilson who was on producers’ minds at the time.

Bilson told Us Weekly, “I was genuinely invited to go on ‘The Hills.'” “I politely passed that.” Then they ended up casting Mischa.”

Bilson, who portrayed Summer Roberts, Barton’s best friend on the Fox teen drama “The Hills” from 2003 to 2007, claimed that one of the reasons she passed on “The Hills” was that she didn’t know any of the other cast members.

“I’ve met Lauren Conrad before, but she doesn’t appear on that [new]show… “I really like Lauren,” Bilson stated. “I only know her a little bit, but she’s cool.” But, no, I’m not acquainted with anyone from The Hills.”

Brody Jenner, Audrina Patridge, Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, Jason Wahler, Justin Bobby Brescia, Frankie Delagado, Whitney Port, Kaitlynn Carter, and Brandon Thomas Lee all appeared in the first season of “The Hills” relaunch, in addition to Barton.

Mischa Barton admitted that when she joined ‘The Hills,’ she was thrown in at the deep end.

Barton never quite fit in with the cast of “The Hills,” some of whom had known each other since the show’s inception more than a decade before. In an interview with Buzzfeed, Barton revealed that she knew Patridge and Port on a social level, as well as Jenner and Delgado from “that club life” in Malibu. Even yet, the reality TV drama with her circle of pals caught her off guard.

Barton admitted, “I definitely got thrown in the deep end.” “It’s a little disconcerting for me…. I wasn’t aware that [the cast]had a lot of unresolved drama that they needed to work through. It took me a while to figure out what was going on and why certain things were such strong triggers for people.”

Barton’s time on “The Hills” was unfortunately cut short. According to TMZ, executives thought she was “boring” and didn’t have any new storylines to offer to the show, so she was fired after one season.

On ‘The Hills,’ Caroline D’Amore has taken over for Barton.
