According to reports, the Saints are eyeing a Giants pass catcher as a replacement for Michael Thomas.

Prior to the November 2nd deadline, a number of Giants pass catchers were the focus of trade rumors. Despite the fact that the squad is on the verge of yet another losing season, the team has decided to stick put. However, just because there was no movement on the trade front doesn’t mean there weren’t genuine discussions about offloading one of Daniel Jones’ best receivers.

According to NewOrleans.Nick Football’s Underhill (via Bleacher Report), the New Orleans Saints considered acquiring Darius Slayton from the Giants as a method to improve their receiving corps without Michael Thomas. Finally, before the 4:00 p.m. ET deadline, the two parties were unable to strike an agreement.

With a new injury, Thomas is out for the season.

The Saints will be without their top receiver for the rest of the season after apparently snooping about the Odell Beckham trade market to no avail (per ESPN’s Kimberley A. Martin). Following “another little setback,” Thomas, who has spent the whole 2021 NFL season on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list due to offseason ankle surgery, will now miss the rest of the season. “The setback was a new issue that suddenly arose after Thomas had been improving in his recovery,” according to ESPN’s Mike Triplett.

In addition to Thomas’ extended absence, the Saints’ passing offense will be missing quarterback Jameis Winston for the duration of the season after Winston tore his ACL against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 8. In the wake of Winston’s injury, the versatile Taysom Hill is likely to take over as the team’s starting quarterback. Hill hasn’t dressed for a game since suffering a concussion in Week 5. The 31-year-old quarterback, on the other hand, is projected to complete concussion protocol in time for New Orleans’ Week 9 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons.

On Taysom Hill, Sean Payton says: “He’s making good progress. He’s right on time.”
