Browns Wide Receiver Talks ‘Turning On’ Baker Mayfield.

The Cleveland Browns did not make any deals before the trade deadline, but there was plenty of drama as Odell Beckham Jr.’s supporters called for him to be dealt.

Much of the debate surrounding Beckham revolved around quarterback Baker Mayfield, with whom he has struggled to connect since arriving in Cleveland. In a lengthy Instagram post detailing all the times Mayfield has failed to hit an open OBJ this season, Beckham’s father, Odell Beckham Sr., had some choice words for him.

“Generally Behind Da Scene, BUT NOT TODAY,” the elder Beckham wrote, with hashtags like “playinghurt,” “disrespectful,” and “7-eleven,” a reference to the fact that he’s always open.

One of the Cleveland players who liked the post was veteran receiver Rashard Higgins, who subsequently reacted to a query about the receivers “turning on” Mayfield.

Higgins tweeted, “Wood never.” “Anything may be used to create a story.”

Never, ever use wood! Anything may be used to create a story.

Higgins has had his ups and downs, but since his rookie season, he has been one of Mayfield’s most dependable targets. This season, he has 14 receptions for 168 yards and one touchdown. Beckham has a total of 17 receptions for 232 yards and 0 touchdowns. Higgins has a one-year deal of $2.3 million, whereas Beckham is paid over $16 million this season.

The Browns are looking for offensive solutions.

In a 15-10 loss against the Steelers on Sunday, the Browns were ravaged by injuries, and the offense struggled to get back on track. Mayfield and Beckham are both nursing shoulder issues, and the run game has been hindered by a slew of injuries to the offensive line and the absence of Kareem Hunt.

The Browns have spent a lot of money on Beckham and his buddy Jarvis Landry, but they haven’t been able to contribute much to the offense. Landry had a particularly bad game last time out, fumbling the ball deep in Steelers territory and missing a couple of important catches.

“It’s probably the simplest way to explain it: we just missed some opportunities.” That is an area where I need to improve. I need to get some players in position to make a play,”… Nokia News – Quick Recap
