In a new 2022 mock draft, the Lions select a top ACC quarterback.

The Detroit Lions are still on track to have a losing season in 2021, and with that in mind, fans can only speculate on what the offseason may bring.

There have been a lot of submissions for the Lions thus far in terms of early looks at the 2022 mock draft, and a new one came in from Bleacher Report and their Scouting Department about what would happen if the draft were held right now.

The Lions would select Oregon defensive lineman Kayvon Thibodeaux with the first overall pick, which is maybe unsurprising. However, it is later in the story where the intrigue begins. According to the site, Detroit would select North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell with the 30th overall pick, which they acquired from the Los Angeles Rams in the Matthew Stafford trade.

The Lions might accelerate their recovery by bringing in Howell and Thibodeaux. Given the quarterback class’s inferiority on paper, the organization is debating whether or not to pick a quarterback early or remain with Jared Goff. Without a quarterback early in the draft, the Lions would target Thibodeaux, who compares favorably to Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney. With regard to Howell, it is stated in the piece that he possesses solid qualities to rely on, even if he could use some polishing.

In any case, this is just another vote in favor of the Lions drafting defense and offense in the same draft class.
