Warriors Coach Criticizes Guard’s Defending Effort Against Lakers.
This preseason, Jordan Poole has been the talk of the town for the Golden State Warriors. The third-year guard has been a human highlight reel on offense and is a near-lock for a starting spot in lieu of Klay Thompson, who is rehabilitating.
That doesn’t mean the 22-year-effort old’s on enhancing his game is finished.

While Poole has put up these ridiculous numbers in the team’s four preseason games, head coach Steve Kerr claimed his play against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday was a mixed bag.

According to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Dalton Johnson, Warriors coach Steve Kerr remarked after the win, “He’s simply worked incredibly hard and gained a lot of confidence.”
‘His first-half defense was really poor,’ Kerr says of Poole.
Kerr was direct in his assessment of Poole’s defensive efforts on Tuesday.
“Right now, the thing we’re trying to get him to do is defend himself,” Kerr said. “It’ll be the deciding factor in everything.” His defense in the first half was atrocious. He wasn’t hustling back in transition, and he wasn’t playing with any physicality.”
The Warriors are 4-0 in preseason play, with a matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday. Poole will likely get a pass from fans if he takes one or two defensive possessions off in a game if the Dubs’ success carries over to the regular season and he keeps doing what he’s been doing offensively.
Kerr, on the other hand, wants to see more from Golden State’s first-round draft pick in 2019.
“We kind of jumped him a little bit in the third quarter, and he really turned it on.” As a result, it was encouraging to see him turn it on…. Kerr stated, “The defense has to step up.”
