‘I Can Do a Lot of Things Better,’ Jaylen Brown says.

Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum have been on a mission to improve over the last 18 months, with the future of the Boston Celtics firmly on their shoulders.

In a recent interview with Michael Holley, Brad Stevens noted, “When you’re the guys, every night is a heavier load with greater duty.” We’ve heard both Tatum and Brown talk about the need to keep growing over the last 18 months, but after head coach Ime Udoka branded Jaylen Brown’s inconsistent approach “mind-boggling,” the sixth-year wing has emerged as one of Boston’s most reliable scorers.

“I can do a lot of things better, like try to figure out how to get guys going, and talk to Jayson about how to get him going.” Making our teammates better is something I believe is a component of being a leader and such. “I still have a lot of growing to accomplish, which I’m actively working on, but that’s my task,” Brown said after the Celtics’ win against the Orlando Magic.

Brown’s remark comes after Marcus Smart’s outburst.

After Marcus Smart chastised Tatum and Brown for their lack of playmaking down the stretch, ball movement has been a hot subject in Celtics circles this week.

“Every team is aware that we are attempting to locate Jayson and Jaylen, and every team has been trained and prepared to stop them. Everyone’s scouting report, I believe, is to force those guys to try to pass the ball. After the Celtics’ loss to the Chicago Bulls, Smart remarked, “They don’t want to pass the ball, and that’s something they’ll learn.”

Brown, who has been singled out by both Udoka and Smart in recent days, has responded by continuing to dominate on the offensive end, averaging 26.9 points per game and 2.6 assists.

Brown, who has never been a main facilitator, led the club in points and field-goal attempts against the Magic with three assists.
