Nico Gonzalez, a 19-year-old midfielder for Barcelona, is having a breakout season with the Catalan giants and was picked in the starting XI for the team’s 1-0 Champions League triumph over Dynamo Kiev.

Nico came close to scoring as too, but his effort was blocked by teammate Memphis Depay in Ukraine. He did, however, capture the eye with a moment of true wizardry when he casually controlled a long ball out of defense, as Masian demonstrated.

Nico made his 10th appearance for Barcelona in all competitions on Tuesday, and his inclusion in the starting XI helped the Catalans create a new Champions League record, according to Opta.

‘Stratospheric’ gets a lot of praise. Nico

Francisco Javier Garca Pimienta, the former Barcelona B coach, knows Nico well from his time in charge of the reserve team and has heaped praise on the 19-year-old midfielder.

Garca Pimienta told Diario Sport that he believes the teenager can follow in the footsteps of captain Sergio Busquets and make a significant contribution at the Camp Nou.
