Packers Sign Blake Bortles and add a young RB to their active roster.

Patrick Taylor and the Green Bay Packers are eager to see what he can do.

After losing rookie Kylin Hill to a season-ending ACL injury, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst signed the second-year running back from the practice squad to the active roster on Thursday, November 4, making Taylor the new third man in the rushing rotation. He also announced the official signing of veteran quarterback Blake Bortles to the practice squad.

After rushing for nearly 2,900 yards and 36 touchdowns over four seasons at Memphis, Taylor signed with the Packers as an undrafted rookie in 2020, but he spent the majority of his first year on the non-football injury list recovering from a foot injury he sustained during his senior season with the Tigers. During training camp, he pushed for a roster spot with Hill and previous sixth-round pick Dexter Williams, but he was ultimately cut and placed on the practice squad for later usage.

With Hill out of the picture, Taylor will have a chance to make a mark as the backup running back to Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. His only previous NFL experience came during the 2021 preseason, when he ran for 89 yards and caught two catches for 22 yards in three games and 27 snaps.

Patrick Taylor’s return is welcome. He’s a massive man with a good mix of acceleration and power. The struggle for number three running back is one of the more entertaining conflicts at camp.

With Aaron Rodgers on the reserve/COVID-19 list, the Packers are likely to move him to the active roster for Week 9’s road game against the Kansas City Chiefs, where he will serve as the backup for Jordan Love, who will make his first career start on Sunday.

How important will Taylor’s role be?

Taylor’s addition to the Packers’ active roster isn’t surprising, given the team’s need to improve its backfield depth. Despite the fact that they have a backup plan… Nokia News – Quick Recap
