The Raiders have added a rookie wide receiver to their active roster.

The wide receiver corps of the Las Vegas Raiders has drawn a lot of attention recently, as the team has been linked to major stars like DeSean Jackson and Odell Beckham Jr. The team has openings at the position following the release of Henry Ruggs, who was arrested on a DUI charge after his involvement in a deadly vehicle accident. He was the team’s top wide receiver, and now they must decide what to do with him.

Meanwhile, the Raiders are bringing in additional reinforcements as they analyze the situation. Dillon Stoner, a rookie wide receiver, has been signed to the active roster by the organization.

After signing as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State in the spring, Stoner spent the first half of the season on the practice squad. After impressing in training camp, the Raiders had high hopes for him. This season, the team’s wide receivers have all been healthy, so he hasn’t had an opportunity to play. He should make his NFL debut against the New York Giants on Sunday, barring any alterations.

Other WR moves by the Raiders could be postponed.

The Raiders also released wide receiver Willie Snead before Ruggs was released. Stoner is a more natural substitute for Snead, considering they both perform best in that position. For this week’s game against the Giants, interim head coach Rich Bisaccia said on Wednesday that they’d likely stay with Stoner and potentially practice squad wide receiver Javon Wims. Neither are, however, long-term answers.

Stoner and Wims won’t be able to compensate for Ruggs’ speed. There isn’t a single wide receiver on the Raiders’ roster who can do it. Both Jackson and Beckham have the ability to spread the field. If those two are available, the team should have a look at them.
