Ahead of Monday Night Football, the Niners switch safeties and place a wide receiver on injured reserve.

The San Francisco 49ers have made some last-minute changes to their active roster ahead of their Monday Night Football game against the Los Angeles Rams.

NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco announced the moves on Twitter on Monday, November 15th, just hours before the Niners’ crucial game against the Arizona Cardinals.

For tonight’s game against the Rams, the (hashtag)49ers have activated veteran safety Tony Jefferson.

Tavon Wilson (knee) and Mohamed Sanu (foot) have been placed on injured reserve.

“For tonight’s game against the Rams, the (hashtag)49ers have activated veteran safety Tony Jefferson,” Maiocco wrote on Twitter.

“Tavon Wilson (knee) and Mohamed Sanu (foot) have been placed on injured reserve.”

The Rams should have their starting free safety back after the Niners’ injury.

Jefferson will back up starter Jimmie Ward at free safety, according to the Niners depth chart published by ESPN on Monday.

Ward is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Rams on the injury report, but he returned to practice late last week and has been expected to play since.

Running back Jeff Wilson Jr., who has been out since suffering a knee injury prior to the start of training camp, is also expected to play.

Wilson is listed as the team’s third-string running back, but he’ll fill in for the injured JaMycal Hasty, who is expected to miss the game due to a lingering ankle injury.

Wilson will play against the Rams on Monday night, according to Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan, who stated earlier in the week that he expected Wilson to play regardless of Hasty’s injury.

Last season, Wilson led the 49ers in rushing yards with 600 yards and seven touchdowns.

Wilson also had three passing touchdowns in 2020, giving the Niners’ offense a much-needed boost against a Rams team that was already capable of scoring a lot of points before signing free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. earlier this week.

Sanu’s absence has thinned the WR group.

Sanu wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire this season before being placed on the injured reserve list on Monday, but his departure leaves a position group even more depleted…
