‘Don’t show up, you get replaced,’ says Jets veteran after game.
After yet another forgettable performance by Robert Saleh’s New York Jets, one has to wonder what the message was in the aftermath.
Did this head coach finally snap and go on a rant in the locker room? Unlikely, he’s told reporters that’s not his style.
Is it possible that it was the same old coach lingo?
Sheldon Rankins, a former defensive lineman for the New Orleans Saints, revealed the postgame message from Coach Saleh and team leaders like Folorunso Fatukasi, and it was upbeat.

Rankins Provides Some Clarity
Rankins was asked about Fatukasi’s postgame speech to teammates during his Week 10 postgame press conference.
‘Foley’ is one of two defensive captains and a key figure in the locker room.
“I think he speaks for a lot of guys because he’s one of the leaders on this team and he’s been here a long time,” Rankins explained.
He’s been through a lot of the ups and downs in this industry, and when a guy like that speaks up and says what he says, people pay attention.
So, at the end of the day, guys, you’ve got to look within… this is your job, and you’re paid to do more than just come out here and play football.
“At the end of the day, you don’t just come out here to complete your task; you come out here to make plays that will help this team win football games.”
Later in the Qandamp;A, Rankins was asked to elaborate on Saleh’s message, saying, “[Saleh’s was] similar to Foley’s… just understanding that the way this league works, you have to show up.”
You will be replaced if you fail to show up.”
He went on to say that he believes his teammates are aware of this, and that the Jets must return to playing the “brand of football [they]are used to.”
When ESPN’s Rich Cimini followed up with a question about whether Saleh actually said that players would be replaced if they didn’t perform, Rankins made it clear that he was paraphrasing.
