The Raiders have signed an ex-Steelers LB to replace Alec Ingold at the position of free safety, while releasing WR
Fullback Alec Ingold of the Las Vegas Raiders has torn his ACL and will miss the rest of the season. Fullbacks aren’t used as frequently in the NFL, but Ingold has developed into a valuable player and leader for the team.
Prior to the season, he was even named team captain.
The Raiders quickly signed a replacement for him because he was no longer able to play.
Sutton Smith has been signed to the practice squad by the team.

He hasn’t been signed to the active roster yet, but the Raiders use fullbacks in a variety of packages, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he was promoted ahead of Sunday’s game against the Bengals.
In Week 10, tight end Foster Moreau was moved to fullback to replace Ingold, but he’s much better suited to his natural position.
Because Smith has yet to appear in a regular-season game, the Raiders may decide to address the position further.
To make room for the fullback, the team released wide receiver Gary Jennings, who had only been signed last week, from the practice squad.

For the Steelers, Smith played some linebacker.
Smith was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL draft.
During his time at Northern Illinois as a fullback, he was a two-time First-Team All-American.
The Steelers, on the other hand, attempted to use him as a linebacker.
He even appeared in a few preseason games at the position, but he never saw action during the regular season.
He’s spent time on the practice squads of the Steelers, Jaguars, and Seahawks throughout his career.
He was most recently with the New Orleans Saints, but was released prior to the start of the season.
The Raiders will provide him with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
In the NFL, fullback positions are scarce, and the team currently lacks one.
Ingold will continue to be the team’s fullback in the future, but Smith could earn a spot on the roster for the rest of the season and play in his first game…
