At the end of the season, several Bears starters are being urged to retire.

With numerous aging starters on both sides of the ball, the Chicago Bears had the oldest roster in the NFL at the start of the regular season.

The Bears roster is full of seasoned veterans, with an average age of 27.0 years old — but the team’s goal moving forward should be to build around rookie quarterback Justin Fields, and it wouldn’t hurt to get younger all-around in the process.

One analyst believes that as a result of retirement, Chicago will become younger — or at least that is what he believes should happen.

Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report listed several former All-Pro players who “should consider retirement” after the 2021 season ends in his November 15 column, with the Bears being the only team with two players on the list.

Jimmy Graham Appearances To Be Done

Jimmy Graham, a veteran tight end in his 12th season, will turn 35 at the end of November.

His 2021 season has been by far his worst, with only two catches for 39 yards on six targets.

After appearing in all 16 games last season, he has started three and played in seven this season.

This drop in production and playing time is alarming, which is why Moton believes it’s time for Graham to retire at the end of the season.

That, and Cole Kmet, a second-year tight end.

“Graham has played 30% of the snaps this year, and he’s a non-factor in the passing game,” Moton reasoned.

“Graham’s contract will expire at the end of the 2021 season, and the Bears see no reason to re-sign him given the recent emergence of Kmet, who set a career high with 87 receiving yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9.”

Graham led the team in touchdown receptions with eight last season, but he hasn’t been nearly as dangerous in the red zone this season.

He also revealed that he had considered retiring this offseason, implying that his NFL career may be over.
