Browns are being urged to hire a former Bears quarterback to replace Baker Mayfield.

It’s debatable whether the Cleveland Browns have seen enough of Baker Mayfield to consider him their quarterback of the future, but former Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky has emerged as a potential catalyst in the situation.

Trubisky has been touted as a legitimate contender for the starting job and as a tool the Browns can use to “push” Mayfield.

Trubisky is currently Buffalo’s backup quarterback, but he was previously the starter.

While in Chicago, he showed some promise and even made the Pro Bowl in 2018.

Trubisky has a career passer rating of 87.2 and a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 64-37 in the NFL.

He’s also a threat on the ground, having rushed for 1,084 yards and nine touchdowns.

Trubisky, who was drafted the year before Mayfield, found himself in a similar situation when his Bears contract expired.

However, while the Browns picked up Mayfield’s fifth-year option, the Bears declined Trubisky’s due to his inconsistent play and regression, making him a free agent.

While the Browns are currently paying Case Keenum a sizable salary to serve as their backup quarterback, the team has an out next season if they decide to go in a different direction.

While Keenum is a capable backup with starting experience, he will be 34 years old by the start of next season.

The Transfer of Trubisky to Cleveland Ignites Controversy

The possibility of Trubisky joining the Browns sparked a firestorm of discussion on social media.

“Earlier today, the FM sports station was debating whether or not we should bring in a Marcus Mariota or Mitchel Trubisky for next season, so yeah, that’s where we are with this team right now.”

On Twitter, one fan wrote, “Just depressing.”

It’s downright depressing.
