Insider: Surprising Bills Starter Deserves ROTY Consideration

In Sunday’s win over the New York Jets, the Buffalo Bills’ rushing game finally improved, but many insiders believe it was someone outside the backfield who really sparked the ground attack.

Against the Jets, the Bills rushed for four touchdowns and 139 yards on 5.8 yards per carry, a significant improvement over the previous four games, when running backs Zack Moss and Devin Singletary combined for 182 yards on 54 carries.

While there were some standout individual performances out of the backfield on Sunday, some believe that right tackle Spencer Brown was the true driving force behind the rushing attack.

“He is a young player who must continue to learn what it takes to play in this league, and he understands that. That humble and hungry approach is genuine, and we must carry that forward next week.”

Brown’s performance drew praise and at least one suggestion that he could be a surprise contender for the NFL Rookie of the Year award, which is usually given to offensive skill players.

“I’m not sure I’m completely serious when I say Spencer Brown should be considered for Rookie of the Year,” Nate Geary, the team’s radio broadcast host on WGR 550, tweeted.
