Nikola Vucevic Takes Full Credit For Bulls’ Massive Free-Agent Signing

Nikola Vucevic of the Chicago Bulls may be out of action while undergoing COVID-19 protocols, but he wasn’t about to miss out on the team’s Los Angeles celebration.

On Sunday and Monday, the Bulls completed a Staples Center sweep by defeating the Los Angeles Clippers and LA Lakers on their shared home court.

DeMar DeRozan of the Bulls averaged 35 points per game over the two games.

The Los Angeles native, who expressed interest in signing with the Lakers during the offseason before the team decided to pursue Russell Westbrook, appeared to be on a mission to slap his hometown teams in the face.

A sign-and-trade deal with the Spurs brought DeRozan to the Bulls.

Vucevic, a former USC teammate of DeRozan, reportedly called the former Toronto Raptors and San Antonio Spurs star to persuade him to join the Bulls.

It worked, and Vucevic congratulated himself on his accomplishments.

This season, DeRozan has been the best free-agent signing in the NBA.

While DeRozan was technically acquired via trade, he had to agree to sign his new contract knowing he’d be playing for the Bulls.

DeRozan has averaged 26.9 points per game over the first 14 games of the season.

While DeRozan will never be as good as Kawhi Leonard on defense, he hasn’t been the complete liability that some predicted when he signed.

DeRozan is averaging just under a steal per game and is defensively exactly where he needs to be.

That’s acceptable when you’re delivering like he has on offense.

This season, no other NBA player on a new team is having a greater impact on his team’s success.

DeRozan was third in NBA scoring with 26.9 points per game as of November 16.

Only Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors and Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets have a higher scoring average than him.
