The Niners captain is out for vengeance against Rams Odell Beckham Jr.
Following the San Francisco 49ers’ rout of the Los Angeles Rams in primetime Monday night, Deebo Samuel and Jimmy Garoppolo are receiving a lot of praise, and it’s well deserved.
However, defensive captain Jimmie Ward is deserving of the game MVP award.
The Niners’ safety is also deserving of another, less official award — MVTT, as in Most Valuable Trash Talker — for the two interceptions he swiped and the touchdown he scored to help San Francisco to a 31-10 home victory in a must-win game.
Ward landed in the end zone after one of his interceptions, but also flat on his back after the other, thanks to new Rams wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
Ward and the rest of the Niners’ secondary shut down the former Pro-Bowler in his NFL debut, holding him to just two catches for 18 yards, according to ESPN statistics.
Beckham did get some alternate action after Rams’ QB Matt Stafford threw an errant pass into Ward’s arms, but it’s an action for which Ward has vowed vengeance.
Ward’s words in response to the hit were published on Twitter by Bleacher Report Gridiron on Wednesday, November 17.

Ward said, “I’ma have to pay him back the next time I see him.”
“I’ve been wanting to hit (OBJ) for a long time.”
With a win in the MNF, the Niners’ season could be saved.
Wins in the NFL aren’t cheap, but that doesn’t mean some aren’t more valuable than others.
The Niners’ win over the Rams on Monday was proof of that.
San Francisco came into the game with a 3-5 record and a 0-3 home record.
The team’s victories up to that point had come against inferior opponents like the Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, and Chicago Bears — all of whom had losing records and, at best, precarious playoff hopes.
The Niners needed a win to right the ship, climb out of the NFC West cellar, and set themselves up for a late-season run at one of the conference’s final Wildcard berths.
The 49ers accomplished all three by dismantling the Los Angeles Rams.
Now that you’ve got a record…
