Joe Flacco Returns to Significantly Assist the Philadelphia Eagles

Because of his South Jersey roots, Joe Flacco will always be regarded as a Philadelphia hometown hero.

And, despite the fact that his brief stint with the Eagles didn’t go as planned, Flacco still has a chance to play a key role in the team’s future.

According to ESPN, Flacco will take over as the starting quarterback for the New York Jets in Week 11. He replaces third-year quarterback Mike White, who is coming off a four-interception performance.

With a sprain to his posterior cruciate ligament, rookie starter Zach Wilson is listed as day-to-day.

This gives Flacco the opportunity to take the reins and run.

The 36-year-old Super Bowl MVP has the potential to catch Grease lightning and help the Jets win games.

Flacco showed nice touch and pinpoint accuracy at Eagles’ camp, despite not being the player he once was.

In the preseason, he was 33-of-50 for 449 yards and three touchdowns.

Although his arm strength is lacking, he does have a 98-77 career record.

At this point, the Jets are only interested in improving their draft position.

Which might turn out to be a good thing.

Either they want to ride off into the sunset without any drama.

Alternatively, they may wish to completely collapse.

Flacco isn’t a bad option in any scenario.

Why Is Flacco’s Start Important?

Last month, the Eagles dealt Flacco to the Jets in exchange for a conditional sixth-round pick in 2022.

If he plays more than 50% of the snaps in four of New York’s games this season, he will be upgraded to a fifth-round pick.

If the Eagles convert that sixth-rounder to a fifth-rounder, they could end up with either the Jets’ own pick in that round or the one they got from Pittsburgh in the Avery Williamson trade.

New York gets to make the final decision.
