Kenny Howard of Von Dutch’s death
Kenny Howard, an acclaimed motorcycle mechanic and artist, was known as “Von Dutch” before it became synonymous with trucker hats worn by celebrities like Paris Hilton.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Howard, known as “the Prince of Pinstriping,” died of liver disease in 1992 at the age of 63.
He was described as an “apparent alcoholic” who once installed a chute in his Kenford truck to dispose of beer cans, according to the publication.
He was “holed up in an old Long Beach city bus” in the weeks leading up to his death, according to The Selvedge Yard.
His moniker was a play on “stubborn as a Dutchman,” according to the publication.
Howard left behind daughters Lisa and Lorna, who sold the rights to the “Von Dutch” name to Michael Cassel and Robert “Bobby” Vaughn, the men credited with launching the popular apparel line, according to Alchetron.
