With 528 votes to Margaret Alva’s 182, the BJP-led NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankar easily won the election.

In 1951, Jat farmer Jagdeep Dhankhar was created in the Rajasthani village of Kithana.

Beginning as a lawyer, Mr. Dhankar has worked in both the Rajasthan High Court and the Supreme Court.

In 1990, a year after he began actively participating in politics, he was named a senior advocate.

He was close with Chaudhary Devi Lal, a former deputy prime minister of India, and he followed his role model when she left the VP Singh administration in 1990 to join Chandra Shekhar’s minority government as a union minister.

When PV Narasimha Rao was appointed prime minister, he formally joined the Congress.

Mr. Dhankar was appointed as the Governor of West Bengal in July 2019, but with the rise of Ashok Gehlot in Rajasthan, he switched sides and joined the BJP.

After defeating rival candidate Margaret Alva by 346 votes on August 6, 2022, Mr. Dhankar was elected vice president of India.
