Due to his erratic performance in Liverpool’s draw with Fulham, Virgil van Dijk earned the moniker “Van Disney.”

Following a poor performance in which the Dutch captain gave up a penalty as Fulham earned a draw against Champions League-winning Liverpool in their first game back in the Premier League, Virgil van Dijk has been widely mocked on social media.

Mitrovic overcame Trent Alexander-Arnold to give Fulham a 1-0 lead after 32 minutes as the Championship winners got off to a flying start against Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Throughout the opening 45 minutes, the Serbian striker posed a constant threat, and Marco Silva’s team surprised everyone by taking the lead.

In the second half, Liverpool came out stronger, but Mitrovic remained a thorn in the side of one of the Premier League’s best defenses, powering past Jordan Henderson and Virgil van Dijk in an extraordinary run.

On the 64th minute, Darwin Nunez scored for the Reds in a competitive match to draw the score even. However, Fulham did not give up, and Mitrovic once more got involved in the action, winning a penalty after Van Dijk was fouled in the box.

At Craven Cottage, the former Newcastle United forward doubled his total by burying his penalty shot past Allison.

Although Liverpool would ultimately manage to salvage a point thanks to a goal from Mohamed Salah in the final minute, Fulham’s number nine was unquestionably the player of the day.

Van Dijk’s shocking performance infuriated a number of fans on social media due to his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders.

Mitrovic has had Van Disney on strings the entire game, according to tweeter @CFCMod_

“Van Dijk got bullied by Mitrovic but LFC fans think he’d pocket prime Drogba, Henry, Shearer, and Rooney,” added @ProperPundits.

‘I’m not saying Van Dijk is bad but considering his (imo) generational talent the level he’s playing at rn is simply not good enough,’ another user commented.

Regarding Liverpool’s struggles to contain the aggressive Mitrovic, @ForteLuNineteen added, “Van Dijk and Henderson had terrible games today.”

All game long, Mitrovic had Van Dijk by the collar.

Another user discussed Mitrovic’s prior difficulties while representing his country, saying, “Virgil Van Dijk just got embarrassed by a striker who spent 120 minutes in Declan Gallagher’s back pocket not that long ago.”
