Emma Raducanu hailed after defeating Sloane Stephens in the first set in 17 minutes at the Australian Open.

Emma Raducanu’s blistering start to the Australian Open has been hailed as ‘flawless,’ with ex-British No 1 Greg Rusedski claiming she has shown ‘the sign of a champion’ after taking 17 minutes to win the first set against Sloan Stephens.

The teenager is still riding high after winning the US Open in September, but she has struggled in a few tour events since then, including losing in straight sets to Elena Rybakina at the Sydney international last week.

But she has rediscovered her best form at a Grand Slam, cruising past American Stephens 6-0 in her first match in Melbourne to get off to the best possible start.

After the dazzling first set, Rusedski led the online adoration for Raducanu, saying the 19-year-old had demonstrated that she gives her best performances when it matters most.

Rusedski wrote, “Whenever there is a slam, @EmmaRaducanu brings out her best tennis.”

‘When you can do that at the biggest events, you’re a champion.’

Emma got off to a great start.’

Her stunning performance also wowed tennis fans, who dubbed her a ‘big game destroyer.’

‘Wow,’ I thought.

After a 20-minute first set, I’m already looking at Raducanu’s draw,’ one user wrote.

‘Player with a lot of experience.

Destroyer of large animals.

‘It’s a mind-blowing mentality.’

‘So far, Emma Raducanu has been incredible.’

‘Hitting with force, precision, and sound judgment.’

‘Emma Raducanu just played a flawless set of tennis! Wow,’ exclaimed one viewer, while another agreed that she was built for the top level of the game, despite her struggles since winning the US Open.

‘Raducanu, who hasn’t won a game since the US Open, has resurfaced this morning and is crushing it.

Big-time gamer.

So far, everything has gone perfectly.’

Her return to form was dubbed ‘bonkers,’ with one fan claiming she was back in ‘US Open beast mode.’

‘After what Raducanu served up a week ago, this is insane.’

‘Has she unlocked beast mode for the US Open?’

Raducanu has made a remarkable comeback since her unthinkable victory at Flushing Meadows in 2021, when she had struggled to perform at a handful of events.
