Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has demanded that Russia “stop its aggression” and “engage in meaningful dialogue.”
Russia must ‘halt its aggression,’ according to the Foreign Secretary, amid fears that Moscow is planning an invasion of Ukraine.
‘Russia is waging a disinformation campaign aimed at destabilizing and justifying an invasion of its sovereign neighbor Ukraine,’ Liz Truss wrote on Twitter.
‘Russia must put an end to its aggressive behavior, de-escalate, and engage in meaningful dialogue.’
Her remarks came as Russia continued military drills despite denials from the US that President Vladimir Putin is planning a “false flag” operation to invade its neighbor.
Ambush and live-firing tank exercises were the latest in a flurry of drills in the country’s western military district since the New Year.
Tobias Ellwood, the Conservative chairman of the Commons defence committee, has stated that a Russian invasion of Ukraine is now “inevitable.”
The US claimed it had intelligence that Russia was planning a ‘false flag’ operation to make it appear that its troops had been attacked by Ukraine.
It was claimed that Russia had already “pre-positioned a group of operatives” in eastern Ukraine to stage such an operation.
‘The operatives have been trained in urban warfare and the use of explosives to carry out acts of sabotage against Russia’s own proxy forces,’ according to the report.
The Russian authorities retaliated angrily.
‘Administrative representatives are already describing in detail the scenarios of such provocations, naming the dates of the eventual start of ‘operations,’ the Russian embassy in Washington said, adding, ‘As usual, there is no evidence.’
‘Such statements confirm the constant information pressure on our country,’ said a spokesman.
Furthermore, the same scenario is repeated – there is a’stuffing’ of a sensation, which then becomes the main news after being repeated many times by the media.’
“The continuous accusations against us in the United States… are unfounded and cannot be confirmed,” Russia insisted.
Moscow, on the other hand, is adamant that a solution must be based on Russian-proposed “security guarantees.”
These include a vow by Ukraine not to join NATO and a refusal by the West to deploy strike weapons across a large swath of eastern Europe.
However, the tank drills in Mulino, Nizhny Novgorod, are just the latest in a series of regular war games conducted by Putin at a time when he is said to have 100,000 troops and heavy military equipment stationed near the Russian-Ukraine border.
The special tactical exercises involved over 300 servicemen.
Crews of T-72B3 tanks were drilled in ‘the skills of night driving combat vehicles in heavy snowfall and a blizzard at…’ elsewhere in the Voronezh region, which borders Ukraine.
