Not the brain disorder CTE, but rather “complications of a seizure disorder,” Demaryius Thomas passed away.

According to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office in Atlanta, former Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas passed away as a result of “complications of a seizure disorder.”

In his Roswell, Georgia, home on December 9, Thomas’ body was discovered in the shower.

Age 33 applied to him.

His family stated shortly after his passing that he had experienced recurrent seizures ever since a car accident in 2019 and that they thought he passed away as a result of one.

Thomas had chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, according to researchers at Boston University last month, but they concluded that it was unlikely to have been the cause of his demise.

These suspicions were confirmed by the autopsy report, which concluded that neither the seizure disorder nor his demise were due to CTE.

Thomas had nicotine and marijuana in his system in trace amounts, the autopsy revealed, according to Denver television station KUSA.

Thomas spent nine seasons with the Broncos and was a four-time Pro Bowl selection. Denver and Thomas won the Super Bowl 50 together.

In 143 games over the course of his career with the Broncos, Texans, and New York Jets, he hauled in 724 passes for 9,763 yards and 63 touchdowns.

He was well known for his big smile and work in the Denver community in addition to his achievements on the field.

Thomas is now among the numerous former NFL players whose demise has been connected to CTE, though it is unclear whether Thomas’s issues were brought on by playing football or by his 2019 car accident.

Although Thomas was previously found to have Stage 2 CTE, Boston University researchers did not think that this played a part in the seizures that ultimately caused Thomas’s death.

The doctor from Boston University said, “He had two conditions going on simultaneously.”

Seizures are not typically linked with CTE, Ann McKee explained to the New York Times last month.

It’s important to note that Vincent Jackson, who played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the San Diego Chargers before they moved to Los Angeles, and who was also discovered dead in February 2021, was also identified as having Stage 2 CTE

Chronic alcohol use was listed as Jackson’s cause of death at age 38.

As part of the largest-ever case series on the condition, a Boston University study released in 2017 identified 110 out of 111 deceased former NFL players as having CTE.

Aaron Hernandez, a former tight end for the New England Patriots and convicted murderer, as well as All-Pro linebacker Junior Seau shot themselves in the chest to protect themselves after receiving a posthumous diagnosis of the disease, among others, committed suicide.
